St Austell Railway Heritage Trust was started by a small group of people interested in our local transport heritage.
The upper floor will house a large model railway layout depicting local railways, including a detailed model of St Austell Railway & Bus Station set in the 1960's. Other sections will include the Gover Viaduct and China Clay Sidings. The ground floor will have smaller scale layouts, permenant and temporary, again with a local theme. There will also be interactive units, hopefully including a "shunting challenge" linked to half or quarter size point levers, visual display units and static models. Throughout the building will be many photographs and small railway artifacts. Alex, Neil & gilbert after boarding up the windows and sweeping the floors. |
![]() Two views of St Austell Signal Box awaiting restoration. The close proximity to the mainline restoration and maintenance has to be carried out when the line is close for track work. We can only use contractors approved by Network Rail. Inside the first floor of the signal box. After signalling operations ceased in 1980 the building was used as a messroom and tool store for the Permenant Way crew. It has lain unused and at the mercy of the elements and vandals since 1995.
